This week has been an interesting one! During my menses this last week I saw some very radical emotional lows and upon the departure of my cycle a drastic upswing in my mood. So yeah, that. Went to the Barnes & Nobles, cuz I love me some Barnes & Nobles, and purchased one of my favorite books ever! I’m also officially back to my home studio taking yoga classes, and it feels sooo good!
Upon further research during my menses I realized my lack of iron (attributed from my new vegetarian diet) was most likely the cause. I found this sweet superfood that hasn’t hit the mainstream radar yet. You can also find it at Trader Joe’s. It’s incredibly high in iron, more so than meat actually, calcium, magnesium, manganese, and so much more. I’ve decided that I will have at least 1 tablespoon daily, probably in my smoothies to create a store for my next cycle. Will report back on how this works out next month!
My favorite book ever right now! So diverse yet cohesive and super informational in the areas of ancient wisdom as it pertains to natural healing. Would be a great gift to yourself or to someone who loves the all-natural lifestyle 🙂 It includes yoga, Ayurveda, herbalism, homeopathic medicine, acupuncture, chakras, bach flowers, juicing, reflexology, crystals, gemstones, healing with sound and much more.
New smoothie of the week and I am soooo in love. This is probably my favorite one right now and it tastes amazing! I basically took the recipe from my NutriBullet book but I added the superfood ingredient from No. 1 on the list 🙂
Turmeric Mango Lasses
1 organic banana
1/2 cup of organic frozen mango (or fresh)
1 tsp. of organic turmeric powder
1 cup of organic unsweetened almond milk
1 tbsp. of organic unsulfured blackstrap molasses
This is so delicious and so good for you. Turmeric helps fight inflammation, banana is a mood enhancer with its potassium and also good for pre-workout, mango is a powerful immune system booster with high vitamin c content, almonds are great for mood enhancement and provide protein, and unsulfured blackstrap molasses has an array and abundance of minerals, vitamins and is low on the glycemic index, meaning it won’t spike sugar levels or insulin production.
Gonna to buy a new yoga mat made of completely recycled materials this week, so excited!
If you live in Sacramento, California and you haven’t been to Solfire Yoga on 26th and J street you are totally missing out. They have the most amazing teachers and community there that makes me feel warm and fuzzy, kind of like the way coffee does 😉 I am so happy to be practicing there again! Check out this special 30 for $30 pass they have for new students.
Can’t think of much else to report on at the moment. I’m starting The Yamas and Niyamas by Deborah Adele again and it’s a much needed refresher. The first two parts of the eightfold path (the Yamas and Niyamas) are some of my favorites. They remind me of my yoga practice off the mat and help me find balance and navigation through the interesting course that life can take us on. If you haven’t read it yet you really should!
Comment below and tell me how your week is going? What’s new for you this week or what have you been up to? New favorite recipes, yoga moves or remedies? Holla at me :)!
Peace, love and namaste!
